Thank the fashion gods for Gareth Pugh. Whilst others with an original vision have faded away or become more straight -laced and commercial, Gareth Pugh remains steadfast in giving us a show. Gareth Pugh SS17 is a re-imaginging of the story of a child emperor in imperial Rome, who proclaims himself as a sun god and is ultimately overthrown
Pugh’s core looks walked in three tribes. opening with a salute to the worship of the sun. Predominantly black, the collection was heavily gilded with shards of splintered gold. The models appeared to be morphing into metallic beings, thanks to the play on proportion and avant garde silhouettes. The show unfolded showcasing floor length flowey dresses in white, black and royal purple with daring thigh high baring splits. Styled with layered chunky bracelets, the pieces were a masterclass in draping. Like structured armour the final pieces were strong and hypnotic.
