Heels and Handbags
Heels and handbags is the LCF Graduate Showcase at 57 Carnaby street running until the 14th July. Despite the title I am going to feature just some shoes today, in particular the designer Harriet Holt. The heavy bondage of the thick buckle straps, with horse hair, and brown leather is a product of therianthropy. The designers thought process was about “the metamorphosis of a human into an animal or a being which is part human, part animal – as found in both classical mythology and popular culture.” The effect was striking, and was a stand out piece of the presentation.
Jonathan Charlesworth continues the fethsitic feel with black thigh high straps, and cream boots. The designer is inspired by his surroundings, and focuses on shape and form, with the final product you can imagine how graceful, and empowering it would look on the female form. The designer combined hard with soft, with the beautiful blue stiffened lace, and leather strapping of his Alexander McQueen inspired shoes. The Georgia Blackmore collection brought a lightness with the use oversized pom poms, but looking in to her inspirations the designer ideas are thought-provoking, and deep. “I created a story of a lost woman – a neo magpie – who is a woman lost in her house of memories. She has attached a memory to an object and although over the years the memory stays the same, the object fades and begins to decay, giving in to wear, sunlight, and time.”
