Newgen has arguably become an integral ( alongside fashion east and fashion Scout) pathway for new designers. The British fashion council initiative sponsored by Topshop supports emerging design talent during LFW, as it can be hard for new Designers to be able to compete with established Design houses. The aim of the scheme is to nurture the talented promising design fledglings into viable global brands; starting with the opportunity to show at fashion week, and coveted pop up space in the BFC Designer showroom with access to the worlds buyers and press.
AW16 recipient Ryan Lo has proven to be a hot ticket at London fashion week. I touched on the unabashed young flirty nature of the collection in my LFW AW16 roundup. His collections are always embedded in youth culture, the inspiration and design beginnings started with Mulan, 30s Shanghai, Chinese TV drama and My Little Princess. Playful faux fur bear stoles, layers upon layers of tulle and chic ponytails that means we can now wear ribbons in our hair. Ryan Lo has carved out an original ultra feminine aesthetic for AW16
