It has been just under a year since I have thrown myself into de-cluttering and making my place into the best home for my kids. If I knew how therapeutic home improvement was, I really would have done it years ago. It has been a long slug and there is still a ways to go, but I love friends and family’s positive reactions to all the changes. EBay, local charity shops and B & Q have become my new Asos ( and you know that means a lot). I will never live the hardcore minimalist Kinfolk life, but I am finding appreciation for what I don’t need, and what actually adds to my home.
A lick of paint is the easiest way to bring some new life to any room. Most of my walls are white, and I wanted to keep this lightness so opted for a feature wall. Valspar Toy Soldier in matte grey actss as a bold dark silver base, which is long wearing. When picking out your paint make sure to utilise the test light sources at the B&Q swatch station. I would have gone for the darker grey until I saw the swatch under fluorescent light. Eeek. I am not a fan of wallpaper because I am useless at hanging it, so I scoured Ebay for wall decals and played around with the design. Even now everyone compliments me on my ‘wallpaper,’ and they are even more impressed that is a DIY. There is something so lovely about coming in from a busy day to a beautiful home. The only thing is can someone please pass this memo to the kids? I somehow always step on a random Lego piece on the floor.
