Corcertina
Even amongst all the strong collections presented by the University of Central Lancashire catwalk, Xiaoping Huang was a memorable clash of geometric printed silk pattern, and paper concertina shoulders. When I found out she was one of the nominees of the Zhandra Rhodes textile award, for me she was the front-runner, innovative, and fun creating a spin on the round shoulder cocoon shape; I believe the collection represented all that is great about textiles. The collection made a bold statement but the attention is in the detail; notice the string of musical notes dancing over the fabric, fully compounding a musical inspiration in a completely original way. Congratulations Xiaoping a well deserved winner.
